About Us - Annamrita

Nourishing The Dream Of A Hunger-Free India

Food for all isn’t just about ending hunger; it’s about equal opportunities and a better future.

As an NGO, our values are deeply rooted into Indian traditions. Annamrita is a Sanskrit word that translates to Anna, “Food” and Amrita, “Nectar”; Food as pure as nectar.

Founded in 2004, Annamrita Foundation has always believed that the intake of food not only sustains a person, it also paves a way for a healthy future. We strive to deliver nutritious meals to people who need it the most.

We work directly with central and state Govt. entities to blend excellence into our food donation program. From serving mid-day meals as lunch to school going children, and serving meals to the frontline workers and the underprivileged, our food relief programs have a far reaching impact on the society at large.

As one of India’s leading NGO, we believe that beyond just being fed, our vulnerable communities must get ample nourishment daily to break the circle of poverty. Our targeted food relief programs ensure nutrition can help children concentrate better in school and help adults take a step towards an equal society. With the promise of good food, attendance in schools grows multifold and communities can break free from the shackles of poverty.

Right from serving mid-day meals in government aided and non-aided schools to COVID-19 food relief, our NGO is helping India stay strong and nourished.

The dawn of a hunger-free era

The genesis of the charity program dates back to 1974 when Srila Prabhupada, founder of ISKCON noticed a group of village children fighting with the street dogs over scraps of food. Troubled by what he saw, he advised his disciples that no one within a ten-mile radius of ISKCON temples should go hungry.

In line with his decree and being inspired by his vision, we launched Annamrita Foundation (Formerly known as ISKCON Food Relief Foundation).

We started as a children’s NGO that served Mid-Day meals in schools during lunch time, and today we stand up to support the needy. Our mid-day meals provide children with the right nutrition to supplement their health and in turn help fight two of the most pressing problems of India – malnutrition and poverty. On the other hand, our food-relief programmes help those in need to strive in trying times.

Annamrita Foundation aims to serve food to mankind, with the same love and devotion that a mother provides for her own.
